John's background is mainly in education. Trained as a teacher he taught all age groups in the UK before taking up a post as Deputy Headteacher at the International School of Helsinki. After moving back to England he was Headteacher of a school in Dorset for eight years.
Since 2002 he has worked for NACRO (National Association for Care & Resettlement of Offenders) the country's leading crime reduction charity, at a Young Offender Institution. It was at this time he first came across the Human Givens approach to emotional distress. Working with young men, many of whom had suffered, or were suffering from, depression, anxiety, addictions and compulsive behaviour, he saw the efficacy of the approach.
